Delicious food from all over the world
Global Grill
By Vici Papajohn

Family celebrations, birthdays and special events downtown are made beter by a delicious meal and the cozy , European atmosphere at Global Gril.

Growing up in the South, I learned to love the experience afforded while dining at a large table, surrounded by friends and family. It is an intimate experience to eat "family style," passing platters and bowls laden with favorite delicacies, sharing the joy of delicious food and fellowship. Yet when I dine out, I seem to gravitate towards a more elegant setting which boasts a chef who can create dishes I can savor — and only imagine how they were ever created!

Downtown Pensacola’s Global Grill is an amazing high-bred; it is a delightfully cozy, warm environment and it boasts some of the most amazing dishes I have tasted since moving back to the Gulf Coast.

Thrice we have dined at the Global Grill with large parties, and each time we have ordered mostly from the "Tapa" side of the menu, passing the dishes and sharing the selections "family style."

T h e restaurant offers both "Tapas" (Spanish for appetizers) and entrees.

The tapas are larger t h a n

t r a d i t i o n a l appetizer-sized portions, and encourage passing and sharing. Several tapas can provide a wonderful variety of tastes and culinary styles, and become quite filling.

We rarely resist the Chef ’s specialty entrees, however, and have ordered both the Peppercorn Seared Tuna entree and the Free Range Veal Chop with Blackberry and Mushroom Jus dish each time. Another irrestible signature item is the Baby Warm Water Lobster Tails in Garlic Butter Cream Sauce.

Last week’s Chef ’s special was an amazingly tender Lobster Tail wrapped in Apple

Cheese that we tried at first to generously pass and share among ourselves, but finally succumbed to the temptation to order another! One of the things I love a b o u t visiting Global Grill is that the restaurant is owned by Gulf Breeze residents Jane and Frank Taylor, and I always see friends from both Pensacola and Gulf Breeze at the restaurant, further adding to its warm appeal.

Last month we ducked in to the restaurant during one of the drizzly evenings we have endured lately, and I ran in to the First Lady of Gulf Breeze, Suzie Gilchrist, who along with her husband, Mayor Lane Gilchrist, who introduced me to a new favorite, the Crab Spring Rolls. Suzie said it best when she exclaimed "I have enjoyed every dish I have tried here at the Global Grill. The food is so wonderful."

The Global Grill is located in downtown Pensacola on Palafox Street.
