Diplomacy Council Planning a ‘Mint Jubilee’ Benefit

“A pre-derby party celebrating volunteerism & southern hospitality” is how Jena Melancon, executive director of the Gulf Coast Citizen Diplomacy Council, describes the council’s fourth annual Mint Jubilee, an event celebrating citizen diplomacy and the U.S. Department of State’s International Visitor Leadership Program. Southern fare and Kentucky bluegrass will help set the stage.

Navarre Beach Marine Science Station Announce hosts the 5th annual Autism OdysSea

Saturday, May 6 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Navarre Beach Marine Science Station

Be part of a special day at the Navarre Beach Marine Science Station for families affected by Autism Spectrum Disorders. Although the name implies that it is just for those on the spectrum, children with special needs and their families are invited to join the fun. Teachers, trained volunteers, community organizations and students from the Navarre Beach Marine Science Station are excited to host this unique event. Participants will rotate at their own pace to learning stations throughout the park. The Navarre Rotary will be providing lunch for all participants.

City of Gulf Breeze Community Shred Day

Saturday, May 13, 9 a.m. - noon Gulf Breeze City Hall 1070 Shoreline Drive

The event will allow individuals to bring their personal paper documents to be shredded (tax information & returns, bank statements, cancelled checks, paycheck stubs, ATM receipts, credit card statements, utility bills, household receipts, credit card receipts, insurance papers, home financial information, personal or health documents, any paper documents containing personally identifiable information). For several years, the state of Florida has ranked in top categories for identity theft per capita. Staples and small paper clips do not

need to be removed. This community event is not for businesses; no corporate business/company documents will be accepted. Gilmore Services will be providing one mobile shredding truck for this event. The truck will be available until 12 pm or until full (10,000 pounds).

Burger Battle by the Bay

Burger Battle by the Bay is the only burger grilling contest of its kind in Pensacola. It will feature over 20 teams of civic organizations, backyard novices and restaurants. Trivia Trek

It’s time for Trivia Trek! Bring your family, bring your pets! The event is open every Sunday between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. at the Gulf Coast Community Center. The1.5 mile walk will feature 12 posted trivia questions. Ballots are $2 each, and all proceeds

Gallery Night in Downtown Pensacola

Friday, May 19 at 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Downtown Pensacola

One special Friday evening each month, the streets of Historic Downtown Pensacola come alive for Gallery Night. The streets close down. The lights come up. The music plays. Galleries, boutiques, restaurants, and bars open their doors to the night air as visitors and locals flood the streets to enjoy music, art and cuisine. Café tables set out on brick sidewalks are the perfect place to enjoy a coffee or cocktail, as the sounds of live music and a spirited crowd fill the air. Families linger in the downtown parks, playing around the beautiful fountains and historic oaks. It’s the perfect chance to get an inside look at Pensacola’s lively downtown sector and thriving art scene. Streets close to traffic at 5 p.m., but there is ample parking available on side streets. The party officially wraps up at 9 p.m., but most restaurants, bars, and local businesses extend their hours to promote the excitement of late night crowds.

Blue Angels Practice

Tuesday, May 30, & Wednesday, May 31,at 11:30 a.m. National Naval Aviation Museum - viewing area 1750 Radford Blvd Pensacola

The outside viewing area for the Blue Angels practice is located on the Museum Flight Line, north of the museum. Signs are posted to direct visitors to viewing and parking locations, including limited parking for handicapped visitors. Open bleacher seating is available for seating 1,000 people. Practices typically begin at 11:30 a.m.(Central Time), and last about 55 minutes. Call for more details, (850) 452-3604.
