While a couple of golf courses in the area are still closed due to Hurricane Ivan, the rest are open - and have been open.

Champion Golf Club in Cantonment was closed for only a couple of weeks after the storm.

“We had some minor damage to the clubhouse and some trees on the course. Other than that, nothing major,” Champion employee Nicole Sisson said.

Tee times aren’t required at Champion as they take golfers on a first come, first serve basis. For more information, call 968-9325.

The Moors in Milton was also down for a short period of time. “We were only closed for about 10 days,” Moors employee Carl Holland said. “We had some exterior damage, but the course was in great shape.”

Holland added that the fact the Moors is a Scottish-style course - not a lot of trees - was a great advantage.

With The Moors being the site of a Senior PGA Tour event (the Emerald Coast Class), and with all the ‘snowbirds,’ a seven day advance on tee times in recommended. For tee times, call 995-GOLF (4653).

The Perdido Bay Golf Club was out for about a month, club pro J.J. Markham said.

“We lost our clubhouse, but as far as the course, it held up pretty well,” Markham said.

Some of the course’s trees around the perimeter were downed, but that’s was about it. The Golf Club’s clubhouse should be completed by the summer.

Markham suggests a couple of days notice regarding tee times. to make a tee time, call 492-1223.

Solutia Golf Club in Gonzalez had nine holes opened on Oct. 1 with the other nine playable two weeks later, according to Solutia employee Leslie Blanton.

“(The damage was) mostly trees. Other than that, very little,” Blanton said.

To arrange a tee time, call 968-8406.

The Stonebrook Golf Club in Pace was also down for only two weeks.

“We’re fully operational. “(The damage) wasn’t bad at all,” Stonebrook employee John Varney said.

Varney says a seven day advance is recommended regarding tee times. To schedule a tee time, call 994-7171.

Efforts to reach Creekside (944-7969), Lost Key (492-1300), Marcus Pointe (484-9770), Osceola (453-7599), Scenic Hills (476-0611), Tanglewood (623-6176) and Tiger Point (932-1333) were unsuccessful at press time. A message to The Club at Hidden Creek (939-4604) wasn’t returned as of press time.
