Mother nature wreaked havoc this year ... but where would we be without her? Celebrate EARTH DAY

“Nature is painting for us, day after day, pictures of infinite beauty if only we have the eyes to see them.” John Ruskin

Pensacola will participate in the 35th anniversary of the international event, Earth Day.

Earth Day Pensacola brings together federal, state, and local environmental agencies, educational and activist groups, natural health practitioners and businesses offering environmentally sustainable products.

There will be booths and displays and to teach how to live more earth-friendly, what the needs and issues are for the local environment, and what each of us can do to help.

Vendors will be selling various art prints, gifts items, natural supplements, natural skin care, clothing, jewelry, native plants, live herbs, books and CDs.

Due to Hurricane Ivan, this year Earth Day will be held at Bayview Park located on Bayou Texar in East Hill. Bayview offers picnic areas, a children’s playground and a doggie park, so attendees can bring all the family members to enjoy the activities of the day.

Along with the playground, there will be lots of activities for the kids such as face painting, a rock climbing wall, and inflatable slides and obstacle courses. Children’s booths will offer “hands-on” activities.

Live music will be playing outside all day at the upper picnic area. The celebration will begin with an opening drum circle, and there will be an apportunity to relax on the lawn or picnic areas and listen to special children’s music with Mr. Mac. Grown-ups will enjoy listening to Backseat Romeo (contemporary rock), Das (Meditative Mantra Music), Songbird, Luna Mantra (original acoustic music), Jerry’s Kids (Grateful Dead tribute) and Michael DeMaria (Native American flute).

Healthy lifestyle demonstrations such as Yoga, Jazzercise, Pilates, Japanese Aikido, Tribal Belly dancing, Taekwondo, Qi Gong and Ballroom dancing will be presented center stage in the Community center.

Inside the community center, a full roster of speakers will offer information on topics ranging from “Village” communities that support environmental and economical living, the status of Project Greenshores; recycling and managing our trash; building energy efficient and much, much more! Some of our speakers will be featured on BLAB TV “The Garden Spot” and Cox Cable “Good News Gulf Coast” talk shows.

Free boat tours are available to view the progress of the Project Greenshores habitat restoration program. Shuttle service will be available to take visitors back and forth from the marina. At Bayview, West Florida Canoe and Kayak club will be demonstrating and promoting the use of these various water craft.

There will be a information about native plants, herb walks around the park and free seedlings and saplings! You can watch a wood carving demonstration or have your Aura photographed.

Food will be available for every palette, including lighter vegetarian fare and choices for heartier appetites.

Earth Day Pensacola 2005 is a non-profit organization and is made possible by the generous support of our sponsors:
