The need for SPEED Pensacola hosts 69th Annual National Indoor Speed and Figure Skating Championships July 17-Aug. 7

USA Roller Sports (USARS) announces the 69th Annual National Indoor Speed and Figure Skating Championships to be held Sunday, July 17 through Sunday, August 7, 2005, at the Pensacola Civic Center in Pensacola, Fla. The threeweek National Championships will attract over 3,500 athletes and 8,000 spectators from across the nation, reaping a $5 million economic impact to the city of Pensacola. Athletes in all age divisions will compete in quad skating, inline speed skating and figure skating during the three-week period.

The fastest inline speed skaters from across the nation will roll into Pensacola, Fla., from Sunday, July 17 through Friday, July 22, to compete in the 2005 National Indoor Speed Skating Championships. Athletes in Junior Olympic and Standard divisions will contend for national gold medals and division titles. The Quad Speed Skating National Championships have been scheduled for Saturday, July 23. Athletes will compete on 2x2 skates.

The most dynamic athletes in the nation will perform at the 2005 National Figure Skating Championships from Sunday, July 24 through Sunday, August 7. Figure skating athletes will compete in a variety of programs in both Junior Olympic and Standard divisions.

The Pensacola Sports Authority (PSA), Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Pensacola Civic Center have come together to host the 2005 National Indoor Speed and Figure Skating Championships. Previously, Pensacola held the competition in 1990, 1993, 1997 and 2001. This is the fifth year that the city of Pensacola will play host to the National Championships.
