Village of Baytowne Wharf heats up this month
Sandestin, Fla.–– Summertime at The Village of Baytowne Wharf in Sandestin is only getting hotter with great, live entertainment and special events while continuing fun activities for the entire family throughout the month of August. A full line-up of events includes weekly concerts, fireworks, feature films, children’s activities, and even comedy shows.
Live performances sizzle at Wednesday Night Concert Series from 7–9 p.m. on Aug. 3, 10, 17, 24, and 31. The bands that take the stage at the Village are proven for great talent, tantalizing sound, and excellent showmanship. The shows are free and open to the public.
Latin flair paired with excellent musicianship characterizes the Ted Shumate & Sal Salaz Project. The band shakes things up from 7–9 p.m. on Wed., Aug. 3. Shumate, an accomplished jazz guitarist, sets the groove while accomplished percussionist Salaz adds his spicy Caribbean and salsa flavor. Their music is both creative and energetic boasting with congas, bongos, timbales, and percussion instruments.
Chubby Carrier & The Bayou Swamp Band gets the party going with the best zydeco music around from 7–9 p.m. on Wed., Aug. 10. Zydeco comes from southern Louisiana and is known for its French dance melodies, Caribbean and blues elements, and the instrumental combination of guitar, accordion, and washboard. Third generation zydeco artist Carrier began his career at the young age of 12 when he played the drums in his father’s band and has been spreading the fun, high-energy sound ever since. Bayou Swamp members include Earl Sally, Corey Duplechin, Cory Leboeuf, Dwayne Paul Dugas, Regi Oliver, and Alcedrick Todd. Together with Chubby Carrier this funky group is sure to be a hit. As repeated in the band’s theme song, “Ain’t no party like a chubby party ‘cause a chubby party don’t stop.”
Rev up your weekend with Vettes @ the Village from 1–5 p.m. on Sat., August 13. Area Corvette Clubs will display “America’s Sports Car” at the Village Events Plaza. Corvettes old and new will be shined to the max and wanting your vote for the best classic and contemporary entries.
Rock-n-roll band Captain Soularcat will give the people what they want to hear from 7–9 p.m. on Wed., Aug. 17.
Six-piece jazz band Roscoe Danza will play from 7–9 p.m. on Wed., Aug. 24. Members include Jeremy Morse on tenor sax, Trey Hebson on trumpet, Gary Seaman on guitar, Steve Ferry on vibes and percussion, Sean Peterson on bass, and Brandon Warren on drums.
Reed Waddle & 13th Street Special is one performance you’ll want to be sure to catch from 7–9 p.m. on Wed., Aug. 31. Destin native Reed Waddle, a radio & television production graduate of the University of Florida, has been compared to artists such as John Mayer, Ben Harper, and Norah Jones. All the fun is happening at Mini Gras @ The Village. The children’s event is scheduled for each Tuesday evening from 7–9 p.m. on Aug. 2 & 9. Activities and entertainers pop up all over the events plaza. There will be a DJ, a clown, a caricature artist, a face painter, hair wraps, henna tattoos, and a moonwalk. Then there is the weekly Mini Gras parade where the new king and queen safely lead a crowd through the cheering village streets.
“Zoom, crackle, pop!” are some of the bursting sounds clamoring at Boomin’ Tuesdays @ Baytowne. Fireworks will shoot over the lagoon at The Village of Baytowne Wharf each Tuesday at 9 p.m. on Aug. 2 & 9.
Thursday Strolls in the Tupelo Courtyard is a weekly event, from 6–9 p.m. on Aug. 4, 11, 18, and 25. Poking about this delicate French Quarter-inspired courtyard is a delightful experience.
Sunset Cinema is an enjoyable event for the whole family. Pictures are shown outdoors each Thursday night starting at 8 p.m. on Aug., 4, 11, 18, and 25. These movies range from timeless favorites to the latest hits. All you need is a spot on the grass and some scrumptious snacks. Get the picture?
