‘Hurricane Monologues’ reopen Ivan’s wounds
Featured this month at PJC
Modeled after the famous “New York” monologues, Hurricane Monologues offers a new spin on the familiar question, “How did you fair in the storm?” offering audience members a collaborative voice on the community’s poignant experiences.
The Arts offer a unique opportunity to share our experiences and present them as a means of healing, as well as a way to learn from each other. Thus, Pensacola Opera, Pensacola Little Theatre and Rebuild Northwest Florida are embarking on a project entitled Hurricane Monologues which will be performed at the Pensacola Junior College Ashmore Fine Arts Auditorium on Thurs., Sept. 15 at 7:30 p.m. (preview performance), Fri., Sept. 16 at 7:30 p.m., Sat., Sept. 17 at 7:30 p.m. and Sun., Sept. 18 at 2:30 p.m. General admission tickets are $20 for adults, $12 for students and can be purchased through the Pensacola Little Theatre box office, 434.0257.
“These are true stories from real people who experienced Hurricane Ivan,” said Timothy Kennedy, director. “We want this show to reflect the heartbeat of the people. Local artists have donated hurricane related artwork to be displayed in the theatre lobby.”
Slated to debut on the anniversary of Hurricane Ivan, this production takes a look back at individual experiences throughout the storm, including before, during and after Ivan, showing how we responded as individuals as well as a community. As we look back on our experiences and look forward to the future, we remember the many stories we have heard and some we told about our shared experiences: stories of destruction, survival, hilarity and hope as well as heroism and kindness.
The piece will be directed by Timothy Kennedy and Assistant Director Jerry Ahillen. Set Design will be coordinated by Bob Gandrup using pieces from local artists.
