Give thanks for all we have

While its early for a Thanksgiving message, I

want to remind everyone: Folks, we have so much for which to be thankful.

Yes, we have had our share of heartache with hurricanes in what we (up to now) called “The Year from Hell” with hurricanes, floods, tropical storms, evacuations and dealing with insurance claims.

However, nothing compares to the lives lost and destroyed just to the west of us in Mississippi and Louisiana.

Now, we as survivors are mobilizing to help with donations of money, water, food, ice, clothing, shelter, toys, baby items and labor to help clear debris and begin repairing and rebuilding. Who knows the impact of a devastating hurricane better than a community that’s endured Ivan, Arlene, Cindy and Dennis.

Fortunately, we were spared the brunt of Katrina and our businesses and communities welcome Hurricane refugees with open arms.

Our beach is open, with sparkling clear waters that soothe our souls. Our restaurants have hot food in abundance and our breezes are gentle, carrying soft sounds of steel drums and acoustic guitars.

Football is gearing up and so are the tailgating parties. Golf courses are reopening just in time for the milder weather and before the time change limits our sunlight.

Fish are biting from local waters, and landing enticingly on our plates.

It’s also a great month to be outdoors getting gardens ready for fall and looking heavenward at the many stars and even a possible new planet we’re just getting to know.

Enjoy this month, and even though it’s a little early, give Thanks for all our many blessings and lend a hand to those in need.
