hen it comes to star and
planet gazing
in the greater Pensacola area, residents and visitors alike know they can count on gathering outside the planetarium at Pensacola Junior College for a great show.
Summer time used to mean viewing the heavens from National Seashore camp grounds nestled among live oak and scrub pine, but our recent storms have shifted the locale.
Rick Hogue, astronomy enthusiast says, “The public is used to seeing these special events at PJC. I for one am always willing to set up at PJC anytime the astronomy club wants to host a gaze for the public, or anywhere else for that matter.”
“We have scheduled a Mars gaze, clear skies permitting, about 9 p.m. on Wednesday night, October 26, at PJC,” says Wayne Wooten. The ‘gaze’ will be open to the public, and members are invited to bring their own scopes to assist those who do not have telescopes. “I hope to have a DVR by then for even clearer video than with VHS,” Wooten says.
