It’s so great to feel Fall again

I am so ready for fall! It’s been a long, hot summer and I am ready for the mellower days and cooler nights of Autumn. Most of our area already looks like a picturesque New England scene; our leaves have been dusted yellow and brown from salt spray carried in on tropical storm force winds, but why not go with it?

I am planning to really get on board with the fall decorating this year, and I’ve already broken out my favorite cider recipe for good measure. My kids are teenagers, and probably will not trick-ortreat this year, but my crowd of 40somethings and I plan to stroll our neighborhood as we have for years, cider in hand, to feel the continuity of the season. For nearly 12 years we have done so; usually escorting our costumed children as they ran screaming from house to house and filled their sacks.

I look forward to eating outside at favorite area restaurants again, and have already marked my calendar for the Gulf Breeze Chamber of Commerce outside art auction and wine tasting. Cool breezes on the beaches mean we can stroll the scrunchy white sand and then drop in on Sidelines, Paddy O’Leary’s, Cocodries, or Hemingway’s for some food and entertainment. Locals tend to frequent the beach again, and it’s common to see familiar faces in the crowd.

Fall is our time, a healing time and a time for some sweet rest. I admit it, Fall also means we are further away from hurricane season, and my heart will lift a little more. Lately I feel closer to my neighborhood businesses, after all we’ve been through together, and I plan to be there for them and patronize them.

You’ve picked up a Splash! Magazine, now pick an activity and invite a friend or a neighbor.
