Hear some Dixieland Jazz at November Jazz Gumbo

The Jazz Society’s regular third-Monday Jazz Gumbo event will feature a Dixieland Combo with clarinetist Tom Owen from Memphis as headliner. Other players on the front line will be Charles L. Cetti, cornet; Poly Parker, trombone; and Joe Occhipinti, saxophone. Extra feature of this special event will be an exhibition by the Swing Kids Dancers.

Memphis clarinetist Tom Owen was has performed for the Jazz Society last year at a Jazz Gumbo event. His performance last year featured the music of Pete Fountain.

The Pensacola Historical Society and Seville Quarter are cosponsoring this event with the Jazz Society. Historical Society members will be special guests and will be admitted at the $5 rate for this evening. Admission includes a cup of seafood gumbo. Guests may also order from the menu.

Norman Vickers, Volunteer Executive Director of the Jazz Society said, “Dixieland events are always popular with our members. Most everyone likes New Orleans Music. We’re pleased to have veteran clarinetist Tom Owen from Memphis in our stellar line-up.

Having the Pensacola Historical Society and Seville Quarter partner with us for this event promises to make an outstanding evening of entertainment.”

The Jazz Society of Pensacola presents jazz events throughout the year. The Pensacola JazzFest, upcoming Saturday and Sunday April 1 & 2 is the highlight of the year.

Future events of interest to jazz fans include:

n Jingle Jazz, Monday December 5. This event will feature jazzy holiday tunes with a number of musical guests. Admission is by donation at the door.

¦ Four Freshmen, Sunday January 8, at Little Theater. This event is of produced by Jazz Society Member Bob Suhrheinrich. Tickets are now available at Little Theater.

¦ Cornetist Ed Polcer and his All-Stars, Sunday January 29, with dinnerdance and show at Pensacola Yacht Club. This event is limited to PYC and Jazz Society members and their guests.
