Fundraisers offer opportunities to dine out - with a twist

Public Invited to 'Firefighters Chefs Challenge' Oct. 10-12

Members of the Pensacola Fire Department will be in the kitchen for a good cause as they team up with Distinctive Kitchens to present the "Firefighters Chefs Challenge."

The "Firefighters Chefs Challenge" will be held at Distinctive Kitchens' Culinary Arts Center, 29 S. Palafox Pl., downtown Pensacola, Oct. 10, 11 and 12 at 6 p.m. Proceeds from the event will help fund a burn bed at Baptist Hospital.

Contestants from each of the department's three shifts will be competing for the title of best firehouse chef. Each team of three will have an hour and a half to prepare a 3-course, firehouse-style meal for all guests in attendance. Meals will be graded by a panel of judges, based on presentation, taste and creativity.

Tickets are $49.99 and can be purchased at Distinctive Kitchens. Seating is limited to 20 people per evening.

Milton Women's Club hosts 'Women in the Arts' Dinner Theater Oct. 13, 14

Tickets for the upcoming GFWC Milton Woman's Club's dinner theater event on Friday and Saturday, October 13 and 14 at the Milton Clubhouse are going quickly. Saturday's performance has less than half of the available tickets left for sale.

This event is the second in the series Women In The Arts and features three oneact comedies written by three female members of the Panhandle Writers Group.

Time Goes By is about two women waiting at the bus station for a former high school chum, the brightest, prettiest and thinnest gal in their senior class, to arrive for a class reunion. It was written by Judy Hodges. The Opportunist is about Margarit, who is on the prowl for her next husband. It was written by Elisa Austin. Silver Threads finds Tassy worried that her magazine won't win a coveted award. The play was written by Myra Shofner.

The event begins at 6:30 p.m. both nights. The dinner is being catered by Paulette Martin of Nouveau Pastries and Catering in Milton.

Tickets are $25 each and only 50 tickets per performance are available. They are on sale at the Santa Rosa County Chamber of Commerce, 5247 Stewart Street, in Milton.

Get a taste of Oktoberfest from the Krewe of Junkanoos on Pensacola Beach Oct. 14

Celebrate fall with the Krewe of Junkanoos at their first-ever Oktoberfest.

The event will be Saturday, Oct. 14 at the Sandshaker Lounge on Pensacola Beach and will feature German food, beer and accordian music.

Boogie Inc. will entertain from 3 to 7 p.m. and Midnight Confessions will begin playing live music at 8 p.m.

Pensacola Beach Elementary School's Fall Festival Oct. 27

The fare here may be more trick and treat favorites than fine cuisine, but the Pensacola Beach Elementary School's Fall Festival will be a fun family event raising important funds for the Island school. The Fall Festival will be held Friday, Oct. 27 from 5-8 p.m.

It is a much needed fundraiser for the school. Admission is free but all games and foods will require tickets that can be purchased at the festival. The games will all range from $1 to $2.

There will be a silent auction with donations from wonderful area restaurant packages, vacation packages, lavish gift baskets, fishing trips to name just a few.

In addition there will be food and drinks, games galore for the young and young at heart, popcorn, cotton candy, inflatable slides, a jumper, obstacle course and much, much, more.
