M o z a r t ' s Symphony No. 40 and Mahler's Das Lied von der Erde on March 4. Guest artists Marietta Simpson, mezzosoprano, and Michael Hendrick, tenor, join the PSO for this extraordinary performance. The concert will open with Mozart's Symphony No. 40, arguably his most famous and popular piece. Guest artists Marietta Simpson and Michael Hendrick join the PSO for Mahler's Das Lied von der Erde, or "Song of the Earth." Mahler considered this piece the most personal of his compositions. Based on ancient Chinese poetry, the text of the songs are reflections on parting, on change and on mortality.

Simpson is one of the most sought-after mezzo-sopranos on the music scene today. She has sung with all the major orchestras in the U.S.A. and under many of the world's great conductors.

In 2001, Hendrick was selected Washington Opera's 2001 Artist of the Year. He has performed with many acclaimed opera companies including the Lyric Opera of Chicago, the New York City Opera and the Seattle Opera.

The performance begins at 8 p.m., Saturday, March 4, at the Saenger Theatre. Ticket prices range from $21-$56 and are available by calling the Symphony office at 850-4352533 or going online www.PensacolaSymphony.com.
