| The Pensacola Pelicans officially announce today the appointment of James "Kash" Beauchamp as the new field manager for the 2006 season.
Beauchamp was the number one draft pick by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 1982 Major League Baseball January draft. He went on to play for 13 seasons with several teams advancing to the triple-A level for six years. He finished his playing career with 1,050 hits, 464 RBI and a .285 batting average.
Following his playing career, Beauchamp has managed in seven seasons, making the post-season in five and winning the Northern League Championship with the New Jersey Jackals.
"I'm excited about this opportunity to bring a championship caliber team to Pensacola," said Beauchamp. "I have heard about the great fans and the family atmosphere and can't wait for the first game."
Beauchamp has a reputation for having a good eye for talent and for his welldisciplined teams both on and off the field.
"In looking for a manager, we wanted someone who had managed successfully at the highest level of independent professional baseball and a history of player development combined with someone who will fit in well with our fanfriendly experience," said Pelicans General Manager George Stavrenos. "We feel we've found someone who has all those characteristics in Kash."
Kash comes from a baseball family; his father, Jim Beauchamp, is currently the supervisor of minor league field operations for the Atlanta Braves organization. He was the bench coach for the Braves for nine seasons and was a member of the 1995 W o r l d C h a m p i o n s h i p Team. He also played for 11 seasons in M a j o r L e a g u e
Baseball, the highest level of professional baseball.
