Grab a slice at Papa's Papa's Pizza is back on the boardwalk at Pensacola Beach
Papa's Pizza is back on the boardwalk at Pensacola Beach. More than 18 months after being shut down by damage from Hurricane Ivan, Papa's Pizza is once again throwing dough for what many consider the best-tasting pie in the panhandle.
Rest assured, though the look of the popular Santa Rosa Sound-side pizzeria has changed, the great-taste of the New York-style pizza remains. The new look includes a metal roof covering, stained cement flooring, travertine and granite countertops. And while Ivan destroyed most of the building, Mike Pinzone, owner and president of Papa's Pizza, was able to save the 35year-old oven slates, the magic touch that gives his pizza that special flavor.
Besides the oven slates, Pinzone says the secret to the flavor of his pizza is really no secret at all. "It's all in the cheese," he says. "Grande cheese makes all the difference. We also hand-roll our dough, which we make fresh daily, grate our own cheese and use our special homemade sauce to complete the package."
Visitors to the boardwalk can be entertained by watching the pizza olas toss the dough into the air, spinning the soon-to-be crust into a pie shape. Papa's Pizza also offers delicious Calzones, stromboli's, pasta and salads.
