Sheryl Crow enjoys excellent prognosis for full recovery

Q: I am listening to an audiotape, "Bitterroot" by James Lee Burke, and the voice of the person reading it sounds so familiar. I got the tapes from a friend, but not the case. Could you tell me who is reading the book and what I might have seen him in? - Amy, via e-mail

A: Many well-known actors have turned to the world of audiobook narration, including Ethan Hawke, Steve Buscemi, James Marsters (of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer"), Michael York and Anthony Heald, just to name a few. "Bitterroot" is read by Will Patton, one of those actors you see in everything, but might not know by name. Among the movies Patton has appeared in are "Silkwood," "The Client," "Armageddon," "Entrapment" and "Remember the Titans."

Q: A few months back, I heard that S h e r y l Crow had b r e a s t c a n c e r . How is she doing now? Did she beat it? I really hope so; she is one

Crow of my favorite singers. - Cassidy, West Palm Beach, Fla.

A: Crow, 44, underwent surgery and radiation treatment for breast cancer back in February, with doctors giving her an excellent prognosis for a full recovery. In May she had her first live performance since her cancer announcement, and said, "I'm just happy to be here."

Q: This television season is barely over, and already I am in withdrawal. I am so scared that some of my new favorites won't be coming back next year. - Anne Marie, via e-mail

A: If some of your favorites are "Commander in Chief," "Jake in Progress," "Hope & Faith," "Joey" and "Conviction" (canceled as of press time), then you might be in for a disappointing fall. However, we have new shows starring Alec Baldwin, Matthew Perry, Tina Fey, Calista Flockhart, Ted Danson and Taye Diggs to look forward to. Also, in a surprise move, the CW network has decided to resurrect "7th Heaven" for an 11th season on the new network. I hope that lessens some of the sting for you.

Q: I am so excited about the new "Superman" movie. Please tell me a bit about the movie and the new "Man of Steel." - Jeremy, Tacoma, Wash.

A: "Superman Returns," starring Brandon Routh, will be in theaters June 30, right in the middle of the big-budget summer movie season. Speaking of big budgets, because of all the special effects, "Superman" is well on its way to becoming the most expensive movie ever made, tipping the production scales at more than $300 million. Routh is a relatively unknown actor - exactly who producers were looking for when they were casting the film - who has been on "One Life to Live," "Cold Case" and "Will and Grace" before landing the career break of a lifetime as the newest Clark Kent/Superman.
