Tough times, yet great career for Ryder

This about a returned soldier called back to duty who refuses to go back. Phillippe has been seen recently in "Crash," and is in the upcoming Clint Eastwood offering "Flags of Our Fathers." It seems the Phillippes have it all going for them. A happy marriage, two adorable "bambinos" and, obviously, quite a large cash intake.
According to the L.A. Times, Colin Farrell bought a million-dollar manse in the Hollywood Hills consisting of four bedrooms and four-andone half baths, plus beamed ceilings, countless woodburning fireplaces, a huge kitchen, climate-controlled wine cellar, a spa, swimming pool and many other amenities. At the moment, Farrell is seeing my neighbor Lake Bell, and from rumors going round it seems she might settle in with him. They met while co-starring in "Pride and Glory."
To Dorothea G. of Chicago. Yup. There have been many sisters who were and are actresses.Way back, there were Norma and Constance Talmadge, Lillian and Dorothy Gish, Constance and Joan Bennett, Loretta Young and Sally Blane, June and Cherry Preiser and, still active today, Joan Fontaine and Olivia

| DeHavilland. Maybe there are more, if I can come up with them I'll let you know.
In her personal life,Wynona Ryder has certainly had a bad time of it. But no one has ever doubted her ability as an actress. She's definitely one of the best. Now she's set to star in "Sex and Death 101," about a man whose life is upended by a mysterious e-mail containing more than a hundred names of women with whom he has had sex. Also names of women with whom he will have sex in the future. Then he meets Wynona's character, a femme fatale who targets men guilty of sex crimes with women. WOW! Meanwhile, lets hope Wynona has had all her personal quirks resolved.
Sean Penn may never have been one of the most likable in the business, but he is certainly one of the busiest - and most
talented. He has adapted for the screen and will direct "Into the Wild," based on Jon Krakauer's book about Christopher McCandless, who abandoned everything in 1922 and hitchhiked to Alaska to live in the wilderness and return to nature. He died four months later in a bus at a remote campsite. Sounds pretty grim to me. Emile Hirsch plays McCandless, while William Hurt and Marcia Gay Harden play his parents.
"Shiver me timbers," or something like that, as the pirates of old used to say. It was a whole different Paris Hilton on the "Late Show with David Letterman." If you didn't see it, she was lovely to look at: all blond hair and a flattering "show-a-lot" dress. She was rather subdued, and talked about music and how
she liked to compose, etc. etc. Now if she could keep it that way, maybe her naysayers, including this column, could learn to like her.

BITS 'N' PIECES: Richard Burton's daughter Kate receiving raves for her performance in "The Water's Edge" on stage in New York. ... Yup. That was Britney shopping at a supermarket in Santa Monica sans baby, sans Kevin, sans gofers and sans anyone asking for her autograph. ... Rumors rampant that Tom The Teeth and Katie are already trying for another Cruise, and I don't mean on a ship. ... Believe it or not there's a screenwriter by the name of Robert Zombie, and he is penning a movie titled " H a l l o w e e n . "
