Pensacola Beach lifeguard season winding down

With school starting, Pensacola Beach is reducing the number of lifeguards on the beach.
Lifeguards at Pensacola Beach are g r a d u a l l y returning to c o l l e g e . Therefore, the number of a v a i l a b l e lifeguards and, in turn, the number of l i f e g u a r d protected beaches is winding down for the 2006 season.

The designated swimming areas at Park East, Fort Pickens Gate and Quietwater Beach will be staffed based upon the availability of Lifeguards. Pensacola Beach's main public swimming area at Casino Beach will continue to have lifeguards from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. through October 22.

The public is advised that it is always safest to swim with lifeguards and to closely monitor the surf warning flags. Further, swimmers at beaches where there are no lifeguards should exercise caution because there may be strong currents even when the surf is small and there are numerous deep holes near the shoreline. For additional information,

please contact Bob West, Manager, Public Safety Department, Santa Rosa Island Authority at 554-4296.
