The Baytowne Film Festival
Baytowne Film Fest will screen feature films, documentaries and student shorts
Screening Classic, Indy movies at the Events Plaza Nov. 10 & 11

"Singin' in the Rain - What a Glorious Feeling!"

Bring the family and join the fun by watching a classic under the stars. The 5th annual Baytowne Film Festival presents "Singin' In the Rain" at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 11 at the Events Plaza at The Village of Baytowne Wharf. The event is free and open to the public.

Directed by Stanley Donen and Gene Kelly, the 1952 classic "Singin' in the Rain" is a comic depiction of Hollywood's transition from silent films to "talkies." Starring Gene Kelly, Donald O'Connor and Debbie Reynolds, the movie is frequently described as one of the most-loved and celebrated film musicals of all time. The dance routine in which Gene Kelly sings "Singin' in the Rain" while twirling an umbrella, splashing through puddles and getting soaked to the skin, is probably one of the most famous musical sequences.

Set in 1927, Don Lockwood and Lina Lamont are a famous romantic pair onscreen. Lina, however, mistakes the on-screen romance for real love. When Don and Lina's latest film is transformed into a musical, Don has the perfect voice for the songs. The only problem is Lina's voice, which mere words cannot describe. Kathy Selden is brought on to dub her speaking and singing, and soon emotions start running high.

The film was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Music and Best Supporting Actress "Jean Hagen." The film has been deemed "culturally significant" by the United States Library of Congress and selected for preservation in the National Film Registry. The American Film Institute placed the film at the top of its 100 Years of Musicals.

The 5th annual Baytowne Film Festival features a full slate of feature films, documentaries and student shorts from Nov. 10-12 at a variety of venues. Entertaining a wide range of viewers, the films include many national and international award winners that will whisk film fans across the world and in some cases, across the lines of reality.
