Dear Splash! editor:
Just wanted to let you know what a great time
we had in Highlands and Asheville! The
suggestions in Donna Freckman's "Worth the
Trip" ar ticle were perfect. We went to the Ann
Jacobs gallery and saw Eddie Barnes paintings.
I'm sure she's the one whose lovely florals I saw
about 10 years ago in San Miguel. She really has
changed her style to fit with what Ann Jacobs said
about current buyers.
The show at the library gallery was down, but
we saw some of the new work about to go up.
Some nice things. My favorite painter in
Highlands is Hubert Shuptrine. He's a master!
Got to see a big show of his at the Montgomery
Art Museum two years ago. He died this year, but
his daughter, also an artist in Highlands, is
carrying on in his drybrush watercolor tradition.
We ... tried to have lunch at the Sports Page,
but it was full. We ordered a whole rhubarb and
strawberry pie and shared it with a lovely English
couple who were staying at the same lodge we
were. It was delicious!
Ashville was fun. We went to those great shops
you mentioned, and we're blown away by The
New Morning Gallery...
