Gulf Islands National Seashore opens gates for free Veteran's Day admission for military
Superintendent Jerry Eubanks announced today that on Veterans Day, Saturday, November 11, U.S. veterans, members of the U.S. Armed Forces, and their families will be admitted freeof charge to public lands managed by the Department of the Interior and the Department of Agriculture.
The Perdido Key Area (Johnson Beach) is currently the only site in the Florida District of Gulf Islands National Seashore that charges an entrance fee. The normal $8 per vehicle fee will be waived on Veterans Day only.
Frequent visitors to the Perdido Key Area can purchase an Annual Gulf Islands National Seashore Pass for $25. This pass allows the purchaser unlimited entrance to Perdido Key during a 12- month period. The National Parks Pass, which allows free entrance to all National Park areas that charge entrance fees, is also sold at the Seashore for $50 per year.
Two other permits, the Golden Age Passport issued to senior citizens for a one-time fee of $10 and the Golden Access Passport that is free for disabled persons, are also available. The Golden Age and Golden Access passports offer fifty percent off user fees as well as free entrance to all federal areas that charge an entrance fee.
