Quayside Fine Art Gallery features magical art
Quayside Fine Art Gallery features the best of everything and it doesn't take much imagination to travel through the fantasy presented by this present show in the East Gallery. Each year a group of artists of multiple Medias present their very best of Puffs magic. Six is the magic number, featuring Laurie Flynn, Nora Matos, Jean Boosa, Pat Born, Virginia Branchcomb and Cathy Pascoe.
Laurie Flynn has turned her Bachelor of Arts in Advertising Design into work as an artist with a TV station in American Samoa, and illustrated a number of children's books. As a member of Pensacola Artist Inc, The Emerald Coast Bead Society and The American Crafts Council for over 30 years, Laurie has received numerous awards for her art. Her batiks, "City Sun", "Saint Francis of the Gulf,"and "Angel" illustrate her fine art approach to the media. Laurie is well known for her batik clothing and woven jewelry.
Nora Matos, a jeweler extraordinaire, creates fanciful pieces with collections of materials from her six year sojourn in Spain and many travels throughout Europe and the Far and Mid East. Asia and Northern Africa, Israel, the main jewelry making center of Thimpu, Bhutan; the Indian states of Assam, West Bengal, Tamal Nadu, (Madras or Chennai), visiting their Craft Council, and observing their ancient techniques inspire her creations. Her new collection, Chic Sea Symphony, incorporates Thai silver and beads. Her eclectic jewelry represents different ages and cultural origins

A woven wall hanging gives the feel of waves breaking on the shore and seasonal felted Santas are ready for the Holidays. Jean leaves the naming of her work to those who choose it for their own, "beauty in the eye of the beholder."
Quayside sculptor, Virginia Branchcomb, works her magic on clay, creating visions of the sea, children, character busts of men and women, vases, umbrella stands and whatever fancy strikes. Twenty-two years of continual art study has allowed her imagination to take many forms, including ceramics, jewelry, drawing and painting. Her sculpted "Lady With Roses", "Vase With Lily" and bust of "Still Me" will prove her creative talent.
The Fired enamels of Pat Born have no equal anywhere. Enamel on tiles echoes the sea which surrounds Pensacola. The children paintings are perfect examples of her artist heart. Pat does not limit herself, but paints each subject that catches her imagination. This show will present her four beach seasons. Born's work is framed and ready to display in your favorite room. Indeed, Pat's art training at FSU, Advertising at Dodson, Craddack and Born, and Decorating Gaberonne Designs, explains her award of Advertising Woman of the Year and membership in the National Miniature Art Association.
Batik clothing, arks, and angels will be Cathy Pascoe's contribution to this fanciful show.
She is well known for her "Cruisin' N Snoozin" batik of Noah's Ark on children's wearable, as well as silk scarves and pillows. "The Boys", a batik piece inspired by her two young sons along with "Happiness Is,"a carved glass piece, and Angels of all styles in batik and glass will celebrate the 6th yearly show of the "Strings and Things" Group of artists. Cathy is an instructor at Pensacola Junior College , a home school leader and an evaluator for the home school program.
Puff the Magic Dragon would indeed enjoy the
presentation of this unique group of gifted artists and claim for his own, "Strings and Things and Sealing Wax and Other Fancy Stuff."
