Pensacola Camellia Club presents free walk-through Dec. 9-10

The Pensacola Camellia Club's 68th Annual Camellia Show will be Saturday and Sunday December 9-10 at the Wright Place, 80 E. Wright Street, in downtown Pensacola. This event is free to the public. Viewing hours are 2-5 PM on Saturday and noon-4:30 on Sunday.

Show Chairman Steve Caton said, "We anticipate approximately 2,000 camellia blooms this year because our area has experienced excellent weather. In addition to fine camellia blooms, there will be an exhibit of floral arrangements by the Pensacola Federation of Garden clubs and bonsai exhibit by the Gulf Coast Bonsai Society. There will even be a "camellia hunt" for school-age children. Membership Chair and educator Gordon Eade has prepared an exciting game for children which entails finding answers to camellia questions which can be answered by observation and deduction."

Caton also emphasized that the show is adjudicated by representatives of the American Camellia Society. These experts come from surrounding states as well as from Florida. All are camellia enthusiasts and many of them will bring their own blooms to exhibit.

Each year the Camellia Club has camellia plants for sale at the show. There will also be experts to help answer questions on camellia care.

The Pensacola Camellia Club was originally founded as The Men's Camellia Club of Pensacola in 1937. The name of the club was changed in 1989 to the Pensacola Camellia Club and women were admitted to membership for the firs time. Now, women comprise approximately half the membership. There are approximately 100 Pensacola varieties of camellias almost all of which were developed by PCC members. For membership and camellia show information contact PCC President Cinny O'Donnell 456-9740 or Membership Chair Gordon Eade 476-4760.
