Trees, tree lighting set tone for season
Throughout town, trees are decorated and decorations are up announcing that the Christmas season has officially begun. A tradition at the Pensacola Chamber Visitors Center is to decorate trees representative of the local area.
"Once again the front desk ladies have outdone themselves in the process of decorating and letting our visitors be aware of our Christmas spirit," says Larry Orvis, Bureau Manager, Pensacola Bay Area Visitors Bureau, "at the same time, they allow themed trees to 'show off' our area."
The Patriotic tree is at the west entrance, the Historical tree is at the east entrance, the Beach tree is in the brochure lobby, the Traditional tree is in the center of the building and smaller decorations are at the front desk area.
"We encourage the public to drop by and see what is done," Orvis encourages.
Tree of L ights - A celebration of life
Tree lightings are also a special tradition, and Covenant Hospice will hold its annual "Tree of Lights - A Celebration of Life" ceremony at 11:00 a.m.Wednesday, Dec. 6 at the Santa Rosa County Administration Center, located at 6495 Caroline St. This poignant ceremony gives the community an opportunity to remember the special people who have touched their lives.
Attendees will also have the opportunity to purchase a limited edition Clark & Company Christmas CD, which will benefit Covenant Hospice. Clark and Company is a popular local group, which performs music to please all ages. "Each light placed on the tree symbolizes the life, hopes and dreams of a loved one," said Courtney Humbaugh, senior community development manager for Covenant Hospice.
Tax-deductible donations can be made at the ceremony or by calling Covenant Hospice 438-9714.
