Bradley kept condition to himself by Evelyn Green Q: I just heard that Ed Bradley of "60 Minutes" had passed away. I didn't know he was sick. What happened? Why did he keep it a secret? -- Marian E., Oviedo, Fla.
A: CBS news icon Ed Bradley, 65, passed away on Nov. 9 from complications of leukemia. Bradley came to prominence covering the Vietnam War, as well as the war in Cambodia, where he received shrapnel wounds to the leg. He was the first, and only, male news correspondent to regularly wear an earring on CBS News.
Bradley kept his condition mostly to himself. As he confided to friends, he didn't want people to feel sorry for him. Many of his co-workers knew that he had been diagnosed with leukemia a few years ago, but it had not posed any immediate threat to his life until he recently contracted an infection. He was admitted to the Mt. Sinai Medical Center in New York City on Oct. 29, and remained there until his death 11 days later.
Q: What happened to the new Showtime show "Brotherhood"? -- Eloise K., Dover, Del.
A: Showtime has announced that it has picked up "Brotherhood" for a second season, which will air in 2007. No specific date has been announced yet, but fans of this gritty drama starring Jason Isaacs (my favorite), Jason Clarke and Annabeth Gish are rejoicing at the news. As Showtime's answer to rival HBO's "The Sopranos," current and future fans can get caught up on what they've been missing, as the Season One three-disc set has been released on DVD.

| Q: What was Merle Haggard in prison for? -- Luther B., Greer, S.C. A: The country-music singer was in and out of trouble with the law since he was a teenager, but his longest stint in prison was three years in San Quentin when he was arrested for robbery in 1957 (he was sentenced to 15 years, but was let out early). While in prison, he planned an escape but never followed through, and he ran a gambling and brewing racket from his cell.
Haggard was inspired by Johnny Cash to straighten out his life after having seen three of Cash's performances at the prison. In 1972, then-California Gov. Ronald Reagan issued him a full pardon. Haggard will celebrate his 70th birthday on April 6, 2007.
