Adopt a furry friend this holiday season
There is a place in Fort Walton Beach where the

abandoned are protected, the hungry are fed, the homeless are sheltered, and the injured are given care. It is your animal shelter, The Humane Society and Adoption Center at PAWS.

PAWS is a nonprofit organization that needs your support to continue its commitment to humane education, and maintain the ability to offer companion animals a second chance for a forever home.

The Humane Society was first incorporated on March 26, 1957 and is presently located at 752 Lovejoy Road in Fort Walton Beach. PAWS handles over 7,000 animals each year and provides a multitude of community services: Animal care and adoptions, microchip implants, animal rescue, lost and found services, adopt-ateacher school program, thrift shop, humane education, pet cremation services, foster care, Safe People/Safe Pets program, PAWS in Motion outreach program, volunteer opportunities, pet therapy, and Spay/Neuter clinic.

Currently, they have a Santa PAWS Tree and "Adopt" a Shelter Pet program. You can become a Santa PAWS this holiday season by "adopting" a needy dog or cat up for adoption at the Humane Society and Adoption Center at PAWS.

Anyone can become a Santa PAWS. Visit the Santa PAWS Tree at The Junkyard Dog, thrift shop, at 179 Eglin Parkway.

Take a look at the bejeweled pet photo ornaments on the tree. Each ornament contains the photo of an animal up for adoption and a list of what that animal needs. Make a monetary donation in the amount suggested and hand the pet photo ornament on your tree as a reminder of the pet that will benefit from your generosity, or wrap the ornament up as a gift. It's as simple as that.

The items on the ornament "your" pet requested would be delivered to the shelter and potential adopters will know that this pet comes with extra special gifts.

For more information contact Candace Powell, The Humane Society and Adoption Center at PAWS at (850) 244-1830.
