Support local rock bands this December
By Franklin Hayes Splash! Magazine

Veteran punker Dathan Auerbach, formerly with The Hazards, now plays bass with A Common Hope. The four piece performs Dec. 5 opening for the Bouncing Souls at UWF.
The Pensacola Bay area has always been home to a genuine, yet under publicized rock music scene. In this month's edition of Splash! we've picked out a couple of locals we think you should check out in December.

A Common Hope is an energetic quartet with a nostalgic 1980's punk attitude that is sure to cause a ruckus wherever they perform. The band's compressed yet socially charged songs invigorate the body and mind as if the listener were strapped to the front of a freight train after downing four shots of espresso. Their overall sound is reminiscent of Black Flag and the Dead Kennedys while Michelle DiMartino's powerfully commanding voice acts as the perfect centerpiece to their raw, near-riot inducing sonic attack. The band also features the talents of guitarist Frank DiMartino, drummer Kyle Delvicchio and bassist Dathan Auerbach. A Common Hope can be found online at www.myspace.com/acommon hope and will be performing with the Bouncing Souls, Street Dogs, and Whole Wheat Bread Tuesday, Dec. 5 at the University of West Florida. Tickets a free to UWF students, are $10 for the general public and the show will take place at the UWF Commons Auditorium, building 22. Call 850-474-2406 for more information.

Out of Nothing
Another local band worth seeing is ska-core quintet Out of Nothing. The five-piece group emotes a hard, yet upbeat garage-punk sound accentuated by brass accompaniment. They can be found online at www.myspace.com/outofnoth ingz.

The band, whose energetic performances are sure to bring out the Skankin' Pickle or Voodoo Glow Skull in the staunchest non-believer, can be seen performing with The London Underground, and Skylab Hoax, Dec. 8 at The Factory for a cover charge of $5. The Factory is located in downtown Pensacola at 422 North Palafox Street.
