Eddie Kirkland, aka "The Gypsy of the Blues" is scheduled to perform at Paradise Bar & Grill Sept. 9. Kirkland is stopping in Pensacola Beach during a statewide tour that ends at the House of Blues in Orlando. Paradise Bar & Grill is set to hold "Blues Bash" Sept. 7, 8 and 9.
Acoustic Bazooka will headline Sept. 7 and Steve Warren will perform Sept. 8. Both concerts will begin at 6 p.m.
Eddie Kirkland will perform on Sunday, Sept. 9 from 4 to 8 pm. Kirkland's appearance at Paradise Bar & Grill is part of his tour through Florida which will culminate with his performance at the House of Blues in Orlando later on in September.
Kirkland, known as the "Gypsy of the Blues" for his extensive touring schedule, has been a blues performer since the 1950's. As well as an extensive personal recording career, he was a sideman for the legendary John Lee Hooker both on tour and in the studio, and band leader for Otis Redding.
Eddie Kirkland's life story seems to be a virtual embodiment of blues influences and experiences. Born in Jamaica, his family moved to Alabama when he was just two years old. A mere ten years later, at the age of twelve, he started his love affair with the road by running away with the "Sugar Girls Medicine Show," a traveling circus that came through his town. He ultimately landed in Detroit where he fine-tuned his chops and became an integral part of the blues scene.
In addition to John Lee Hooker and Otis Redding, Kirkland has performed with Ruth Brown, Little Richard, Ben King, Little Johnnie Taylor and many others. See and sample his discography at www.eddiekirkland.com.
