'Age of Humans' is topic of lecture at IHMC Oct. 25
Braden R. Allenby will speak about Life on a Terraformed Planet at the Institute for Human and Machine Cognition, 40 S. Alcaniz St. in Pensacola, Thursday, Oct. 25 at 6 p.m. A reception begins at 5:30 p.m.
Scientists have begun to call the current era the "Anthropocene," which roughly translates as the Age of Humans. At the same time, accelerating technological change in fundamental technology systems - especially nanotechnology, biotechnology, robotics, information and communication technology, and cognitive science - is dramatically changing cultural patterns and belief systems that have been stable for centuries. Welcome to the first terraformed planet -and it isn't Mars. It's going to be quite a ride.
Braden R. Allenby is the Lincoln Professor of Engineering and Ethics, professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering, and of Law, at Arizona State University. He previously served as the Environment, Health and Safety Vice President for AT&T.
