Blue Morning ‘new blues’ show Jan. 12

The new year is ushering in a new beginning for five artists in the New Member’s Show titled, “The New Blues” at Blue Morning Gallery with an opening reception on January 12 from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m.

Four of the five new members are painters: Lois Corbin, Jeanne M c G r a t h , Pauline Smith and Bill Atkinson. The fifth member is clay artist Elaine Foshee.

Variety is still a key word for the show. Lois Corbin’s work, although for many years impressionistic, this show gives her the chance to hone her skills as she tackles the abstract world.

J e a n n e M c G r a t h ’ s works are c a r e f u l l y planned, then executed wet into wet taking advantage of what is happening on the paper surface. She often paints on rice paper, which gives a soft pleasing look to the art.

Using a soft watercolor style Pauleene Smith¹s landscape work is traditional but she says her work goes in all directions including portrait paint through flowers and botanical still lifes to collage and abstraction.

Bill Atkinson is retired military. Predominately a landscape artist, his favorite subjects are of the sea and aviation.

The fifth new member is Elaine Foshee who loves working in clay. Her lump of clay can become a sculpture, functional vessel, wall art or a combination of things. She strives to incorporate humor, inspiration, whimsy, spirituality, optimism and a sense of mystery.

“At Blue Morning we are very particular about the new members that we add to our group. Our space is limited and we try to select those who add some aspect of art that we do not already have and they are good at what they do,” said gallery president Paul Cumming.

The gallery is located at ll2 Palafox Place, two doors north of the Saenger Theatre. Gallery hours are Monday- Saturday from 10 a. m. to 7 p.m. for mor detail call 850- 429-9100.
