West Florida Library gallery
The Southwest Branch of the West Florida Public Library system concentrates not only on literature, but also makes fine art available for viewing. Each month a different local fine artist is featured on their walls for enjoyment as well as purchase from the artist. From mid February through March 26, the featured art is black and white graphite drawings and acrylic paintings by June Cooper. She is represented by Quayside Art Gallery. Artel Gallery's juried exhibit, "When Johnny Comes Marching Home", will run through March 30 with an opening reception on Friday, March 2, from 6-8 p.m. Juror Lonnie Rich will select works from all media.

The Visual Arts Gallery at the Anna Lamar Switzer Center for Visual Arts is presenting the works of realist landscape painter James Butler and black-and-white photographer H.C. Porter. The exhibit runs through March 30.

| Butler, this year's Switzer Distinguished Artist, has explored over 2,400 miles of the Mississippi River from its origin in Minnesota to its outlet in Louisiana to produce an epic exhibition of 17 oil paintings entitled "Rapture/Rupture, Life along the Mississippi."
Mississippians and Their Stories" is an array of blackand white photographs by Porter, who lives in Vicksburg, Miss. The poignant photographs document the strength, bravery and determination of her native Mississippians caught up in recovery after Hurricane Katrina.
The public is invited to a reception for the artists 6 to 8 p.m.
The gallery is located on the Pensacola campus at Ninth Avenue and Airport Boulevard. Hours are 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Friday. Admission is free. For more information, call 850-484-2550. Learn how to create a stump doll
