April flowers bloom in Northwest Florida Between baseball and softball games, my family manages to find a few afternoons per month to put our boat in Santa Rosa Sound and zip along to Fort McRee or to Big Sabine, where we pull our boat up on the shore and get out to go exploring the wild, unspoiled waterfront.
We manage to see tidal pools and Blue Herons along with the wild evergreens that somehow manage to survive in the salty sand. After a few hours, we head back, and I always envy the lucky few who get to live on the waterfront all year round.
In this temperate zone, March brings the showers and April brings the flowers ... a month earlier than the classic axiom. Easter Lilies are in bloom as the azaleas begin to wane. The mild weather is beckoning us outdoors to participate in the Northwest Florida's many festivals and down to the beaches to stick out toes in the Gulf of Mexico.
This issue of Splash is your guide to getting the most out of April, whether you're looking for smooth jazz or raucous rock and roll, a blockbuster movie or a quiet dinner in a local restaurant.
