Enjoy the beach via moonlight

Beginning in April, the Gulf Islands National Seashore will offer an opportunity to enjoy moonlight from the beach at Fort Pickens.

Park Ranger Beckie Mims will lead an hour-long program celebrating the full moon and the seashore beginning at 7:00 p.m. at the gate to the Fort Pickens Area and concluding on the beach in the park.

"Come hear about our nearest celestial neighbor and some of the folk tales it has inspired," says Superintendent Jerry Eubanks. Visitors should be prepared to walk about half a mile down the closed roadway and out to the beach, and bring a blanket or towel upon which to sit in the sand.

Superintendent Eubanks encourages everyone to enjoy the National Seashore and join us for our ranger-led programs. For a complete program schedule and more information, call 850-934-2600 or go online to nps.gov/guis.
