Escape summer's heat in cool, inviting galleries
Student photo exhibit at PJC

Drop by PJC to experience France and Spain through the lenses of Pensacola Junior College students at the exhibit "deux semaines" Aug. 3-9 at the Visual Arts Gallery.

The opening reception is 6 to 8 p.m. Aug. 3 at the gallery located in the Anna Lamar Switzer Center for Visual Arts on the Pensacola campus.

Under the guidance of adjunct professor Virginia Vanneman,independent studies photography students spent deux semaines (two weeks) in May taking photos of Paris, southern France and Spain - including the seaside town les Saintes Maries de la Mer, the wine-soaked hills of Banyuls Sur Mer and the dramatic cliffs of Costa Bravo en route to the cobblestone town of Cadaques, Spain.

Summer gallery hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Admission is free. For more information, contact Vanneman at 932- 0915 or vvanneman@pjc.edu.

Blue Morning Gallery hosts new Featured Artists' Show

Featuring the works of Pauleene Smith, painter, Monique Webb, jeweler and Christine Chandler, photographer, "Celebrating New Beginnings," runs through August 25.

Photographer Christine Chandler's work will be exhibited at Blue Morning Gallery through August 25.
Blue Morning Gallery is located at 112 Palafox Place, just north of the Saenger Theatre. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

Artel Gallery looks at Frank Lloyd Wright

Artel continues its Art Explorations series on Wednesday, August 22, 2007, at 5:30 pm with a presentation by Suzette Doyon, Ph. D., entitled "How did Frank Lloyd Wright's 'Mayan Temples' land in Japan?"

Frank Lloyd Wright always claimed that his architectural designs were "absolute originals." To his contemporaries,Wright would vehemently deny the presence of any outside influence in his architecture, other than that which came from Nature herself! The architect even dismissed the possibility that his close knowledge of Japanese construction might have contributed to his mature style.
