Rock, pop, jazz and more mark November's musical scene

Mr. Big plays on the Beach Nov. 6

Pensacola Beach's favorite concert series is extended into November as Tim Jackson's Mr. Big climbs the concert stage from 7- 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 6 at the Gulfside Pavilion.

This evening of fine musical entertainment under the stars was originally scheduled for Oct. 16 but was rescheduled due to inclement weather.

Mr. Big unites worldclass artists playing a fun mix from New Orleans Jazz to American pop, beach music and country.

Spectators are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets to the pavilion area. No pets are allowed and glass is prohibited. Concerts are provided and organized by the Santa Rosa Island Authority.

Jazz Gumbo is Nov. 19 at Seville Quarter

The Jazz Society's Jazz Gumbo event will feature the Lillian Connection Big Band for listening and dancing. The event will be held in Phineas Phogg's Room, Seville Quarter in downtown Pensacola. Music starts at 6 p.m.

The big band will perform arrangements of familiar tunes performed by Benny Goodman, Woody Herman, Count Basie and others.

Cost for admission is $7 for JSOP members, $10 for public, $5 for students and free for military in uniform. Admission includes a cup of seafood gumbo. One may also order from the menu.

UWF hosts musical events in November

Chamber Music Concert at Old Christ Church, Nov. 7, noon, Free and open to the public. An all-Baroque program including works by Bach, Handel, Couperin, Vivaldi and Telemann.

"All-Steinway School" Student Showcase, Nov. 10, 7:30 p.m., UWF Music Hall in the CFPA, Building 82. Free and open to the public. Students from the Warren and Helen Wentworth "All- Steinway School" Piano program will perform.

Faculty Recital. Kim Gandrup, flute, and Blake Riley, piano. Nov. 12, 7:30 p.m., UWF Music Hall in the CFPA, Building 82. Free and open to the public. Flute Instructor Kim Gandrup performs accompanied by Blake Riley on the piano.

UWF Jazz Band and Combo, Nov. 14, 7:30 p.m. UWF Music Hall in the CFPA, Building 82.Free and open to the public. The UWF Jazz Band and Combo perform jazz numbers from various periods.

Music Hall Artist Series. Emmanuel Borok, violin and Andrey Ponochevny, piano. Nov. 19, 7:30 p.m. UWF Music Hall in the CFPA, Building 82. Adults $16; Senior citizens, active military, UWF faculty and staff $12; non- UWF students $10; free to UWF students with a valid Nautilus card. Born and raised in the Soviet Union, Emmanuel Borok toured the world performing in places like Israel, France, Venezuela, Switzerland and Holland, as well as Carnegie Hall in New York City. He has also performed with Itzhak Perlman, Yehudi Menuhin, Janos Starker, Lynn Harrel and Christopher Hogwood. He is currently the concertmaster of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra. Before moving to Dallas, he served 11 seasons as associate concertmaster of the Boston Symphony Orchestra and concertmaster of the Boston Pops Orchestra.

UWF Runge Strings, Nov. 27, 7:30 p.m., UWF Music Hall in the CFPA, Building 82. Free and open to the public. The UWF Runge Strings will be joined by Louise Schulman, viola. Schulman is the principal viola with the Ensemble and Orchestra of St. Luke's in New York City.

UWF Symphonic Band: Holiday Concert, Nov. 30, 7:30 pm, UWF Mainstage Theatre in the CFPA, Building 82. Free and open to the public. The Symphonic Band will perform its annual holiday-themed
