Enjoy the outdoors at Blackwater State Park

Opened to the public in November of 1968, Blackwater River State Park in Holt, Fla., is a favorite destination for water and camping enthusiasts. The 590-acre park consists of a variety of natural ecosystems, including upland pine forests, swamps and scrubby ridges, and is surrounded by the Blackwater River State Forest managed by the Florida Division of Forestry. The river is lined with notoriously beautiful Atlantic white cedars, featuring the 1982 Florida Champion, recognized as the largest and oldest of its species.

Two miles of the Blackwater River flow through the park, making it an excellent trip for canoeing and kayaking, as well as tubing, swimming and fishing. Visitors will also enjoy wildlife viewing among the park's various natural communities and picnicking in one of its three covered pavilions. The terrain, plant communities and wildlife are also highlighted along the park's two nature trails. Guided walks and programs for park guests are offered seasonally. The Juniper Creek Trail, which is maintained by the Florida Trail Association, is accessible from the park. The park's 30 camping sites have recently been renovated and are open for visitors to enjoy.
