Jazz Society of Pensacola announces January programs
The Jazz Society of Pensacola's (JSOP) first program of the New Year is the Monday Jazz Jam, January 7 at Eat! Restaurant, 287 N. Palafox. The festivities begin at 7:00 p.m., and admission is available for a minimum donation of $5 per person.
Performing musicians get in free- bring your axe and sign in to perform. There will also be complimentary appetizers and bar service.
.. The Jazz Gumbo event, Monday, Jan 21. at 6 p.m., will be a special celebration of JSOP member Martha McDowell-Flemming's birthday. Cost is $7 for JSOP members; $10 to the public; students $5 and free for military in uniform.
Admission includes a cup of seafood gumbo, and guests may also order from the menu.
The "Friends of Martha Jazz Band" will provide the musical entertainment and there will also be some surprise musical guests. They will play tunes from the mid 40s-early 50s as a clue to the honoree's birth year.
Notre Dame Undertones come to Gulf Breeze
The Notre Dame Alumni Clubs of Pensacola and the Emerald Coast Proudly Present The Notre Dame Undertones.
They are traveling all the way from South Bend, Ind., and are one of the finest a cappella groups on the college circuit.
The Undertones will perform at St. Ann Catholic Church, on Friday, Jan. 4, at 7:30 p.m. St. Ann Catholic Church is located at 100 Daniel Drive, in Gulf Breeze.

PJC hosts concert in Milton
The Gulf Coast Bluegrass Music Association (GCBMA) presents its Bluegrass Concert, Jan. 26, 5 p.m. at the PJC Milton Campus in the Student Activity Center, building 4200.
Doors open at 5 p.m., and music starts at 6 p.m. After the bands finish, the GCBMA will hold drawings for door prizes and for a cash prize. The drawings will be followed by open jam sessions where any musicians that have brought their instruments can get together and play.
The PJC student business club will beselling refreshments onsite to raise money for their club project, Ronald McDonald House of Pensacola.
Everyone is welcome and a small donation will be collected at the door to help pay for the bands.
Spend an evening with Mark Twain
The Mattie Kelly Fine Arts Center at Okaloosa-Walton College, in Niceville, presents the famous one-man show, "Mark Twain Tonight", with actor Hal Holbrook. Holbrook uses his physical and vocal talents to transform himself into the famous American novelist.
The program will take place on Wednesday, Jan. 9, at 7:30 p.m. Individual tickets are $30 each, and can be purchased by phone, (850) 729-6000, or by visiting the Mattie Kelly Fine Arts Center website at www.owc.edu/arts.
