Big bands, orchestra and Broadway offer diverse entertainment in February

A chamber ensemble of the Northwest Florida Symphony Orchestra will present a concert featuring the music of Aaron Copland, Corelli and Martinu on Saturday, Feb. 2.

The concert will be held at Grace Lutheran Church in Destin, located at 4325 W. Commons Blvd., next to Home Depot. The program begins at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 each, and are

available by phone or web

from the OWC Mattie Kelly Arts Center box office, at Playground Music in Fort Walton Beach and Chan's Wine World in Destin. If space permits, tickets will also be available at the door on the night of the event for $15 each. ComposerFest showcases local musical talent

Come enjoy the original music of local and regional composers at ComposerFest III, an annual Pensacola Junior College Lyceum event.

The free concert is at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 3, at the PJC Ashmore Fine Arts Auditorium.

"The purpose of ComposerFest is to give the public an opportunity to hear music written by local composers and performed by local musicians," says Matt Fossa, a PJC music instructor and member of the Pensacola Symphony Orchestra.

NAS presents The Glenn Miller Orchestra

Big bands are back at the National Naval Aviation Museum! The Glenn Miller Orchestra will perform at the museum on Sunday, Feb. 17.

The Glenn Miller Orchestra is one of the most sought after big bands. The 19-member orchestra plays many of the original arrangements, as well as modern big-band style selections. The entire repertoire exceeds 1,700 compositions, allowing the orchestra to remain popular with music enthusiasts both young and old.

The performance will begin at 7 p.m. in the Blue Angels atrium. Concertgoers will also be able to enjoy dinner, from a limited menu, at the authentic Cubi Bar Café from 5:15- 7 p.m.

A limited number of tickets are available for $20 per person for Foundation members and $25 per person for non-members. Group rates are also available at $20 per person for 20 people or more. Tickets can be purchased at the museum's IMAX® ticket counter;Morale, Welfare & Recreation (MWR) ticket counter, NAS Pensacola; Dollarhide's Music; Reynald's Music House and Blues Angel Music.

Broadway shows headline OWC lineup in February

The OWC Mattie Kelly Fine & Performing Arts Center presents three exciting Broadway shows in February.

..The music of the Man in Black will ignite the stage in the new Broadway musical "Ring of Fire," featuring signature songs from the legendary Johnny Cash.The show premieres Feb. 1 at 7:30 p.m.

..The Producers will show on Feb. 20 at 7:30 p.m. Experience the biggest Tony Award winner in Broadway history with this Mel Brooks musical comedy.

..Movin' Out shows on Feb. 25 at 7:30 p.m. More than 24 Billy Joel rock classics are brought to electrifying new life in this story of five life-long friends.
