'La Boheme' celebrates love, life and art

Pensacola Opera (PO) brings Giacomo Puccini's masterpiece, "La Boheme," to the Mattie Kelly Fine and Performing Arts Center at Okaloosa-Walton College March 7 at 7:30 p.m. and March 9 at 2 p.m.

Puccini's "La Boheme" is, without a doubt, one of the most popular operas ever written. With its thrilling, beautiful music and its mixture of high comedy and serious drama, the opera sweeps the viewer away into a world of young love, a world of romance, and ultimately, a world of sadness. With "La Boheme," Puccini wonderfully captures just what it means to be young and alive, offering us a brilliant mixture of lightness and darkness, all set to some of the most romantic music ever written.

Take your gang of friends to see the loves, lives and heartbreaks of opera's greatest set of friends. Cry with Rodolfo and Mimi as they discover their doomed love. Thrill Marcello as he chases after fickle Musetta. Join the bohemians of 19th century Paris as they celebrate love, life and art.

The original inspiration for Rent, PO's "La Boheme" features world-class performers, including baritone Dennis Jesse and local favorite Amy Pfrimmer, singing Puccini's romantic, soaring melodies.

Puccini's "La Boheme" follows a group of friends through trials of love, life and heartbreak in 19th century Paris. It is considered one of the most popular operas ever written.
