Art is 'In Bloom' at Pensacola Museum of Art

The Pensacola Museum of Art is welcoming Spring to the area with "Art in Bloom", an art-and-floral inspired event benefiting the educational and programming services of the museum. This three day event will run Thursday, April 10 through Saturday, April 12.

Professional floral designers will create interpretative arrangements inspired by selected pieces of art from the exhibit "The Art Students League of New York: Selections from the Permanent Collection." Both the exhibit and the floral arrangements will be on display inside the museum, along with shopping in an open air flower market, guest lectures, and a master's class.

The Pensacola Museum of Art hosts world renowned floral artist Nico DeSwert from Belgium. DeSwert challenges the viewer to see flowers and plants in a new light: as a medium, much like fabric or paint, for creating art. His fantastic floral arrangements are likely to resemble the bustle of an haute couture evening gown, an art installation, or an abstract explosion of colors and textures. His floral arrangements have appeared in leading magazines such as Martha Stewart Living Weddings; O, The Oprah Magazine; Gourmet Magazine; NY Magazine; Modern Bride Magazine; Brides Magazine and InStyle. DeSwert will be presenting the lectures, teaching the master's class, and displaying his own floral works of art. His book "Living with Flowers" will be on sale in the flower market, along with daily book signings.

Similar "Art in Bloom" events have been held in museums around the country, including Boston, Minneapolis, and New Orleans, drawing 3,000 to 20,000 visitors. As the only accredited visual arts museum from Mobile to Jacksonville, The Pensacola Museum of Art strives to bring diverse, engaging, educational, and creative exhibits and programs to the area. The exhibit, "The Art Students League of New York: Selections from the Permanent Collection" will be on display February 29 through April 19.
