Jazz it up!
25th Pensacola Jazz Fest is April 5-6

The free 25th Pensacola JazzFest will be presented on Saturday and Sunday April 5-6 in historic downtown Seville Square. The JazzFest is presented by the Jazz Society of Pensacola with the assistance of corporate sponsors and community organizations.

Headliners for the event include Butch Thompson's Big Three, Shelly Berg Trio, saxophonist Dayve Stewart, clarinetist/saxophonist Bob Maksymkow, The Jazz Guardians Big Band from Ft. McPherson, GA. Platinum recording artist Alan Hewitt will present a clinic "Making Music for Movies" on the Youth Stage in Fountain Park on Sunday April 6 at 2 p.m.

Jazz pianist headliners Butch Thompson and Shelly Berg will be judges at the Phillips/UWF Jazz Piano Competition held at UWF Main Stage Theater on Saturday night at 8 p.m. The winner of that competition will perform on the JazzFest stage on Sunday at 12:15 p.m.

Local and regional musician groups include: The Guffman Trio, vocalist Holly Shelton, pianist Bobby Van Deusen and the Dixieland Dandies. Jazz bands appearing on the main stages include Ransom Middle School, UWF and PJC jazz bands.

Chuck Minnich, JazzFest Director, said, "There will be food vendors with delicious choices of meals and snacks, beer, wine and soft drink sales. There will be some chairs for seating, but if you bring your own chair or blanket, you will be assured a good seat. Please leave your dogs and pets at home, as there is a city ordinance restricting pets, skates and bicycles in the park during festivals."

Music begins at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday and at 11 a.m. on Sunday. Music ends each day at 6 p.m. Music on the Youth Stage in Fountain Park, adjacent to Seville Square begins at Noon on Saturday and at 12:30 on Sunday.
