If you haven't already, check out the neighborhood's newest nightspot, Third Base Pub & Eatery, located on Hwy. 98 two miles east of the Gulf Breeze Lowe's.

The bar is open seven days a week, featuring eight beers on tap and an ever-growing selection of bottled beers, as well as wine and a variety of malt beverage cocktails.

"We want to be accommodating to everyone, and if we don't have the brand of beer you want, we'll do everything we can to stock it before your next visit," says owner Anita Stiefel, an Alabama native who moved to Gulf Breeze five years ago.

The kitchen is open every day except Monday, serving up value priced "pub grub" such as chicken wings, slider burgers, pulled pork sandwiches, and chili. Signature items include beer battered jalapeno bottle caps, Black & Tan onion rings, buffalo bleu cheese sticks, Wisconsin brats, and pig wings in pepper jam sauce.

There is no shortage of entertainment at Third Base. Internet access is free, and sports are always showing on the 11 flat screen TVs. The 2009 Golden Tee Golf and Silver Strike Bowling games stay busy, as do the two dartboards and the new pool table. Happy Hour lasts all day, with drink specials til 6 p.m. Each night of the week features a different activity.

Tuesday is trivia night, with customers using their brainpower to compete for prizes. The pub offers karaoke on Wednesdays and Saturdays, Thursday is dart league night, and each Friday night they feature live music from local musicians starting at 7:30.

"I fell in love with the area while traveling through a few years back, and so I started vacationing here a few times a year and finally decided this was where I wanted to retire one day," says Stiefel, a notquite yet retired college professor.

"We want this to be a place where friends gather to have fun, play games and share a few laughs," she says. "We really are a place where everybody knows your name, because we take the time to learn it."
