What: Amici Art Exhibit
Where: Anna Lamar Switzer Center for Visual Arts Gallery When: June 4 - July 23
The Anna Lamar Switzer Center for Visual Arts Gallery features retrospective works of renowned artists Hank Heuler and Duncan Stewart, both of Pensacola. The exhibit runs through July 23.
A reception for the artists is 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 4. It is free and open to the public.
Heuler's works highlight his skills in printmaking, drawing and sculpture. Stewarts' works reveal his talents in painting, collage and mixed media.
Gallery director and curator Vivian Spencer assembled the exhibition entitled "Amici," an appropriate title since these two artists have known each other for more than 40 years as artists, University of West Florida professors and friends.
"The underlying concept for this exhibition is to show design elements, motifs and themes in the earliest works from the 1950s and 1960s that foreshadowed the contemporary works," Spencer says.
"This landmark exhibition has pieces never seen by the public, both very early art and art made especially for this exhibition. This is the beauty of a retrospective of such prolific artists who have known and worked alongside one another for so long."
The Gallery is located in Building 15 on the Pensacola campus, at the corner of Ninth Avenue and Airport Boulevard. Hours: 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Call 850-484-2550 for details.
