Red, White & Blues Week heats up Pensacola Beach

The best days of the year to visit Pensacola Beach include the annual Blue Angels Air Shows, scheduled for July 9-11 this year. The 2009 Red, White & Blues Week turns up the summer heat with four days of high-flying chills, thrills, dives and stunts that push the boundaries of gravity from July 6- 12 on Pensacola Beach.

The jam-packed week of events culminates with the Pensacola Beach Air Show, featuring civilian and military aircraft flight demonstrations and concludes with Pensacola's own Blue Angels.

The week kicks off with Blue Angels jets Nos. 1-4 flying Circle & Arrival maneuvers at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, July 8. Blue Angels jets 5 & 6 continue at 9 a.m., and C-130 "Fat Albert" takes off at 9:50 a.m. The Blues also will perform a practice session at 2 p.m. on Thursday, July 9.

The full dress rehearsal begins at noon on Friday, July 10 and includes Julian MacQueen, the U.S. Coast Guard, Skip Stewart, Gary Ward, Aeroshell Aerobatics and the Blue Angels flying Fat Albert (C-130) and F/A- 18 Hornets.

The main event, the Pensacola Beach Air Show, kicks off at noon on Saturday, July 11.

Aircraft and teams participating in the Pensacola Beach Air Show include:

Grumman Widgeon G- 44 flown by Julian MacQueen - approximately 12:25 p.m.

U.S. Coast Guard Search-and-Rescue (SAR) demonstration in an HH-65 Dolphin - approximately 12:30 p.m.

Modified Pitts Special flown by Skip Stewart - approximately 12:45 p.m.

MX2 sport aircraft flown by Gary Ward - approximately 12:55 p.m.

WWII North American AT-6 "Texans" flown by the Aeroshell Aerobatics Team - approximately 1:05 p.m.

Fat Albert, a C-130 Hercules - 1:50 p.m.

The Blue Angels F/A-18 Hornets - approximately 2 p.m.

Tuesday, July 7: Bands on the Beach featuring Kyle Parker Band at the Gulfside Pavilion, 7-9 p.m.

Wednesday, July 8: "Breakfast With the Blues" Blue Angels Circle and Arrival maneuvers, 8-10 a.m.

Thursday, July 9: Blue Angels Practice Air Show, 2 p.m.

Friday, July 10: Full dress rehearsal of Pensacola Beach Air Show, noon. Blue Angels fly at 2 p.m.

Sounds of Summer concert featuring Anna Garrott at the Quietwater Shell, 6- 8 p.m.

Saturday, July 11: Pensacola Beach Air Show, noon. Blue Angels fly at 2 p.m.
