It's Swing Night in Pensacola, attracting youngsters, oldsters, male and female to the fun, social event.
Nick Musmansky, 17, has been a fan of Friday night Swing Nights for three years.
"I just like the fun atmosphere, and it's a great workout," Musmansky said. "After being at Swing, I wake up sore on Saturday mornings."
Teens especially enjoy the dances, which are alcohol and tobacco free, but you can find a member of practically any age group at the event.
"I've seen as young as five years old," Musmansky said, adding that he's seen retirement age folks there, too, enjoying the fun environment.
The music, usually coming from Itunes over large speakers, includes tunes from the Swing era, and includes "Rockin' Robin" and "Zoot Suit Riot" as well as other toe-tapping tunes. Occasionally, the Escambia County Jazz band will perform.
Swing dance lessons occur from 8:30 to 9:30 and the dance lasts from 9:30 to 12 midnight. Cost for admission is $5, and attire ranges from comfortable clothing with tennis shoes to more elaborate period clothing.
"You can dress up in 30's style clothing if you feel like it," Musmansky said.
Pensacolaswing.com is the website to visit for more information, or to see photos of some of the Pensacola Swing afficionados in their zoot suits and flouncy skirts.
