Southern ‘Whiskey, Rock-A-Rollers’ ‘Comin` Home’ in November
One of Southern Rock’s legendary bands, Lynyrd Skynyrd is set to take over the Pensacola Civic Center on Friday, November 13! The touring veterans are world famous for classics that everyone knows by heart, like the immortal songs “Sweet Home Alabama” and “Free Bird.”
Over 30 years after the tragic crash that claimed the lives of several of the original band members, including frontman Ronnie Van Zant, this tough group of musicians are still blasting their brand of Southern Rock to thousands of loyal fans.
The band reformed in 1987 for a reunion tour with Ronnie's younger brother Johnny Van Zant as the frontman and continues to record music today.
Their “God & Guns” Tour is rolling support of the band’s new album of the same name, which has been in stores since September 29. The project was interrupted -- but, obviously not ended, -- by the deaths of founding member/keyboardist Billy Powell and longtime bassist Ean Evans earlier this year
The band website says the following about the character of one the most well-known and well-liked bands: “Beyond the tragedy, the history, the raging guitars and the killer songs, ultimately, Lynyrd Skynyrd is about an indomitable will. About survival of spirit; unbowed, uniquely American, stubbornly resolute.”
Lynyrd Skynyrd was one of the most commercially successful and critically acclaimed Southern Rock groups of the 1970's. Their distinctive triple-lead guitar sound made their songs "Freebird" and "Sweet Home Alabama" American anthems and staples of FM radio. The band was inducted into The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2006.
The current band members are as follows:
Johnny Van Zant – lead vocals (1987–present).
Gary Rossington – guitars (1964–1977, 1987–present).
