Drew, Saints prepare to ‘Brees’ past franchise wins record and into playoffs
The 2009 Season has been one to remember thus far for the New Orleans Saints and their fans. As of November 20, when this article was written, they’re 9-0 and in first place in both their Division and Conference.
In fact, this team is only four wins away from eclipsing the franchise’s all-time wins record, which currently stands at 12.
Much of the current success is a direct result of the performance of quarterback Drew Brees.
Brees arrived in New Orleans in 2006 and since has ranked among the NFL's elite quarterbacks, including being named the Associated Press Offensive Player of the Year last season and having twice been voted to the Pro Bowl.
He has set a number of records over the last three seasons, and each year in New Orleans has exceeded his performance from the season before.
Brees leads all NFL passers since 2006 with 13,910 yards. Brees, who was released by the San Diego Chargers after being plagued by a shoulder injury, has been an “ironman” for the Saints – starting all 48 regular season games during his tenure in New Orleans.
Brees has also had a tremendous impact on the community of New Orleans, and was honored as the co-winner of the 2006 NFL Walter Payton Man of the Year for his charitable contributions and volunteer work.
Brees has already taken the franchise as far as it’s ever gone in the playoffs – a 2006 trip to the NFC Championship game. The Saints would lose to the Chicago Bears.
As we enter December, the question is this: Can Drew Brees and the Saints get over the hump and make it to a Superbowl?
