Pensacola Opera's Mainstage Season for 2010 celebrates its return to two productions in its traditional home, the Historic Saenger Theatre. Season tickets are now on sale, with priority seating still available in all sections.

‘Show Boat’: Jan. 22, 24

In January 2010, audiences will delight to Jerome Kern and Oscar Hammerstein's Show Boat. Based on Edna Ferber's novel, Show Boat takes place over 50 years on the Cotton Blossom floating theatre. With hits like "Make Believe," "Old Man River," "Bill," and "Can't Help Lovin' Dat' Man," Show Boat has been an American classic since its first production in 1927.

Pensacola Opera brings this musical theatre masterpiece to life with a star-studded cast, including Jennifery Aylmer as Magnolia and Corey McKern as Ravenal, in a semi-staged concert production, Friday January 22 and Sunday January 24, 2010.

‘Cav/Pag’: Jan. 22, 24

Cav/Pag, the Opera's March offering, is a doublebill of Italian verismo opera at its finest. Two stories set in small Italian towns bring us a fistful of characters crazy for love, singing some of the most beautiful music ever composed. Pietro Mascagni's Cavalleria Rusticana tells the tale of two hot-blooded men both in love with the same girl. Ruggero Leoncavallo's Pagliacci follows a small band of travelling players whose performance becomes a real-life dramatic crime of passion. Pensacola Opera is proud to announce tenor Arnold Rawls as the clown, Pagliacci, and the lover, Turrido in these glorious musical melodramas. Cav/Pag performs at the Saenger Theatre Friday, March 12 and Sunday, March 14, 2010.
