PJC’s Jing Zhou exhibit a must-see
The art of internationally acclaimed graphic artist Jing Zhou includes these pieces, titled “Worldliness” (left) and “Solidtude” (below).
The Anna Lamar Switzer Center for Visual Arts at Pensacola Junior College is exhibiting the works of graphic artist Jing Zhou through March 12. The exhibit opened on January 26.
A reception will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 25; a lecture/panel discussion will also take place at 2 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 26. Both events are at the Visual Arts Gallery and open to the public.
Zhou is recipient of the Switzer Distinguished Artist designation.
Born in Chongqing, China, Zhou is a prolific interdisciplinary artist and versatile graphic designer. Her artistic creations reflect her interest in spiritual experiences and Eastern and Western art, literature and philosophy.
To her, creating art is a process of expressing her nature via being human. Zhou’s award-winning artwork has been widely shown and collected worldwide. It is in the permanent collections of the WRO Media Art Center in Poland and the Museum of the Living Artist/San Diego Art Institute. Accolades include the Horizon Interactive Awards and Lucie International Photography Awards.
Clients include international organizations such as Greenpeace.
Also showing in the exhibit are works by PJC alumni/graphic designers Namrata Advani, Lauren Gruber, Brett Swanson and Steve Olesky.
The Visual Arts Gallery is in the Anna Lamar Switzer Center for Visual Arts, Building 15, on the Pensacola campus at the corner of Ninth Avenue and Airport Boulevard. Gallery hours are 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Friday. Tours are available with prior arrangements.
