See replica’s of Columbus’ famous ships, the Nina (right) and Pinta (above), from March 9 through March 15 at Lulu’s Homeport Marina, 200 E. 25th Avenue, Gulf Shores. The Pinta and the Nina, replicas of Christopher Columbus’ ships, will return to the Gulf Coast March 10 through their early departure Monday morning March 15th.

While at dock on at Lulu’s Homeport Marina, the public is invited to visit the ships for walk-aboard, self-guided tours. Admission is $7 for adults, $6 for seniors and $5 for children. Children 4 and under are free. The ship is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Nina is a historically correct replica, built completely by hand. The craftsmanship of construction and the details in the rigging make it a truly fascinating visit back to the Age of Discovery. The ship was used in the production of the film “1492.”

The Pinta, recently built in Brazil to accompany the Nina, is a larger version of the archetypal caravel, has a 900 sq. ft. main salon, and is available for private parties while in port.

Both ships will be touring together as a new and enhanced “sailing museum” for the purpose of educating the public and school children on the “Caravel,” a Portuguese ship used by Columbus and many early explorers to disctover the

world.

The ships arrive Tuesday, March 9th, and there will be a private viewing for the media after docking.

Teachers or groups (minimum of 15) wishing to schedule a 30 minute guided tour with a crew member should call the ship directly at (787) 672-2152. Group tours are $4 per person. Visit www.thenina.com for additional information.
